man, my 12-yr old is being hit-up by the zit-fairy. I've tried so many things to help him. I think he needs to go to the doc but my insurance doesn't cover it :\

Have you tried ProActiv? All celeb jokes aside, it really does seem to work for a lot of people

I second that, re the efficiency of ProActiv -- I bought some for one of my teenagers. Sometimes if the zits are more serious and "acne-like", you know, deep and nasty looking, there's an underlying bacterial infection and you need antiobotics to clear it up.
Awww, poor little guy. Puberty is hard enough without feeling self-conscious about your skin. Hope you find something to help him.
If you have insurance, take him to a dermatologist and get him started on Retin-A. It's available as a generic, and one tube lasts 3-4 months. If the dermatologist tries the "see you in for monthly bullshit" just tell him no and insist on 6 mos. or yearly visits. Tell him you'll call for an appt. if things change/worsen.
Once he's on the Retin-A., keep him on it. He'll be thanking you when he's in his 30s and can still score with 18 and 19yos. :)
