December 2012. That's when Zack Snyder's blockbuster new take on Superman will finally arrive in theaters. Until then, you're just going to have to wait patiently; if you're expecting some plucky P.A. to smuggle out set photos, plot spoilers or some other big scoop -- you're not going to get it. This is a very-big-deal project for Warner Bros., and they are going to keep information on this movie locked down. And Superman fans are just going to have to deal with the fact that if you want to learn more about the movie, it will be done on WB's time.

And now they have finally parceled out an important piece of news. In an interview with the L.A. Times' Hero Complex, director Zack Snyder has finally explained how much this new movie will tie into the five previous 'Superman' film installments -- it won't. Specifically, Snyder states, "The one thing that everyone can start to think about is that we're making a movie that finally goes with the approach that there's been no other Superman movies."

So what can we expect from Snyder's 'Superman'?

The mantra for Snyder's new take appears to be "Respect the canon, but don't be a slave to the movies." Snyder elaborated, "In some ways Superman is the most recognizable superhero on the planet but also the most unknown. Just what can he be? People have preconceived ideas about him, but probably all of them are wrong." And if you're wondering if Snyder's Superman will share a lot of character traits with the pensive, reverent portrayal in Bryan Singer's 'Superman Returns,' the 'Sucker Punch' director assures fans that "our Superman, he's got things to figure out, but he's a physical cat."

Snyder's 'Superman' -- rumored to be called 'The Man of Steel' -- stars Henry Cavill as the Big Blue Boy Scout. And if you're dying to know whether Cavill can pull of the caped look or not, Snyder promises that you won't have to wait until December of next year to see the costume for the first time: "We're going to have to show it before we shoot, probably a while before that, because [otherwise] someone will be on the set and get a picture of it." So far the only other actor signed onto the project is Diane Lane, who will be playing Ma Kent, but Snyder teased fans that as far as future casting announcements go, "there's more to come and I think it's consistent in its ... awesomeness."
